Well, it is reassuring to know that this seems to be characteristic with this model, and it's still so popular with nobody really hearing of lockup failures. I agree the lock bar should move up a little bit more though... and yeah, my lockup is closer to 2 mm than 3.

I didn't see it answered here...the 615 with the Blackwood logo on the right side isn't worth any more than one with no markings. When Neil moved away from Benchmade and stopped designing for them the logo was left off as a result of that. As to doing any grinding to modify the tang, aside from voiding the warranty you could void any fingers that get in the way if not done right. With Benchmade's warranty policy I would've just sent it up for servicing. 350, 520, 525, 525BK-1101, 530, 580-1102, 580 Proto, 583-1, 585-1, 710-1, 710-2, 710D2, 710HS, 722, 732, 740, 740 Proto, 741, 745, 746, 746-1201, 750, 790, 800, 800HS, 805-1101, 812, 830, 831, 835HS, 840, 845, 890, 905, 907D2, 910, 910SCG, 912D2, 913D2, 12400 Proto, 12410, 14205, 14210, 40022-100. Joe, the Benchmade service department does superb work, but I don't think that they want to modify their products to suit my whims. I appreciate your concern for my safety, but rest assured, I have a significant background in machine work and I'm confident of my ability to perform these modifications adequately. However, I do value your input and that of other members. Thank you.
