Can somebody tell me the edge degree of the 710 out of the box. I assume it has a back bevel as well? This will be my first Benchmade and I'd like to know if my Sharpmaker will be a good fit for it. The Sharpmaker has 40 degree edge, and 30 degree back bevel pre-set stone angles. Thanks, Kirk

KEB, the easiest way for you would be to paint a little magic marker on the edge of your knife then try it on the 30 degree setting. See if it removes the ink right down to the cutting edge. If it does, use the 30 degree setting to sharpen it from now on. If it doesn't, try the same thing on the 40 degree setting. It will probably cut right to the edge and that's what you'll have to use. Benchmade blades are hand sharpened, so you never know what blade angle any particular knife will have. They are often different angles on both sides of the same blade. If you have to use the 40 degree setting, don't worry about it, it will still get really sharp and the edge will last a long time. ********************** ********************** You are the Sum of Your Actions. All blades? That explains a lot to me. Thanks. I actually asked this question a couple weeks ago: http://benchmadeforum.com/eve/...06573/m/575002080001 The answer is 20 to 25 degrees. I've had pretty good luck with the 40 to remove some material, then switching to the 30 degree setting on my Sharpmaker to take the edge to the point it's sharp enough to split hairs. -----cut here for free knives----- 556, 615-2, 831, 14210

John W...didn't you start with the 30 then put a final cutting edge on it with the 40? ********************** ********************** You are the Sum of Your Actions. Knife Rights Member

The reason for the question in the first place is that I saw a review on the 710 on YouTube and somebody said Benchmade puts an inclusive edge degree of 60. No matter anyhow. I've re-ground edges with the Sharpmaker before. It's a bit unorthodox I suppose, but possible.

Nope, it was easier to remove the material going from 40 to 30 than it was going from the original grind to 30. The edgeholding on the D2 is pretty good, too. Should I put a final grind on it of 40 degrees ? -----cut here for free knives----- 556, 615-2, 831, 14210
