If the omega spring breaks on this knife from doing the AXIS flip then there would not be a safe 580/585 alive today.

+1 on the bad batch.

Only knife I've every had Omegas fail on was my trusty 940SBK. It has seen TONS of use and TONS of opening and closing. It only failed on one side and the small broken bit fell out one day. I noticed it and thought to myself "what was that" but was quickly distracted and never gave it another thought. I continued using the sucker for another year or so like that(with one omega intact) with no ill effects. Finally, when my life slowed down a hair and I started paying attention to things that had fallen out of my cross check I noticed that something was a little off with the 940. Tension seemed a little lighter on the axis bar compared to some others. After peering at the insides with a flashlight becuase I didn't want to take it apart I determined that the little piece I had seen fall out all those months ago was part of the omega spring. Sent 'er off to BM and she came back good as new about a week later.

With that said, I have nervious hands i.e. I figet and twitch and basically have to have something in my hands to do. Side effect of a type A personality I guess. This often, depending on where I'm at, is a knife or deck of cards or etc. Open close, open close, open close, open close...for hours, drives my wife and dog nuts. So I figure it took almost two years of this for one omega to break, pretty darn good in my book.

BM will get that 527 back working again, and flick away without worry. If you or your buddy snap them again, send 'er in again. Good reason to have more than one BM Wink At least that's what I tell people.
