Kingfisher, did you inform anyone that you were travelling with knives? I've heard some people say lately that they have.

In checked luggage, that's not required. Firearms must be declared. And, once checked in, the luggage gets to be locked. I believe that is the only circumstance in which checked baggage can be locked.

Chang,
Only at check in I said I had knives in my suitcase. I was asked if I had any guns or anything that looked like a gun in there, and was advised to check in a necklace for my daughter (it had a tiny gun on it!) Roll Eyes

The only thing you have to worry about with knives is lowlife airport thieves.

Thanks perado and Kingfisher. I was just curious, again, because I heard that. The last time I flew, I placed my Benchmade in its box and everything in my suitcase and didn't have any problems with it. I just was wondering if the policy had changed or not. To be truthful, I'm almost afraid to do that anymore because I've heard staff at the airport can go through your luggage sometimes and everything doesn't always get put back in there as it should.

I can't believe that about the gun on the necklace Kingfisher. I'm honestly wondering when it will reach the point that they sedate people when on flights so they don't have to worry about someone trying to hijack the plane....

Archie Bunker from an old episode of All in the Family was once discussing hijackings. His solution was to issue a handgun to every person getting on the plane....then the hijacker wouldn't have any advantage....Ha! Big Grin

I had a teacher in high school that thought along the same lines. He said that as students walk on to campus, they should each be issued a gun. That way if a person pulled a gun out, they would have the rest of the class pull a gun out on the one person. Seems perfectly logical to me....

Now I say this as a card carrying CCW citizen and Second Amendment champion...

It is often said that, if we could carry guns on planes or in schools, etc (where they are currently not allowed) we could stop shootings and hijackings.

But if we think not just tactically, but practically... There is a problem.

You are in a school... A shooting starts. I hear the shots and I draw... Along with 50 other permit holders... I start to engage.

Now think for a minute... At that point, who knows who the shooter is? When someone who is a bit behind the process shows up, guess who the shooter is to him? Me? When the police show up with the SWAT Team (who more than likely will wait 30 minutes to enter)who is the shooter? Who do they start shooting at?

Imagine being on a plane 36,000 feet in the air, and 15 untrained (in that circumstance) citizens open fire... Not good.

Just food for thought...
