The original G-10 scales were cool but heeeavy. The aluminum scales account for virtually all the weight change. This will make the knife much friendlier to carry on web gear, especially in a flight environment where you do a lot of bouncing around. Aftermarket sheaths are a must.

I really applaud Benchmades' Gold Class design team for making the Nim Cub II-1001 twice as heavy(6.4 oz.) as the regular Nim Cub II. Whereas I thought the compact, lite weight II would be perfect for parachuting, it didn't address the need for Navy Seals' need for a knife designed for parachuting into water for underwater exercises. I guess that's where the extra weight comes in handy, because it also eliminates the need for a weight belt. No sooner than you'd hit the water, you would plummit straight down to the bottom of the ocean. Nice going Benchmade. Of course, since I never jumped into water, I bought a regular Nim Cub II and exchanged handles so as not to waste the superb blade. Razzer
