I don't detect any difference in spring force. I suspect the springs are identical between the two. The internal parts are identical. The difference is the blade and the handle scales.

Both are locking up perfectly at this point, after maybe a hundred openings.

Both knives fire quite strongly. Manly! It has to give one pause to wonder how long the stop pin is going to hold out, but Benchmade has been making autos for a long time. They have a lot of experience with the forces and materials in demanding environments like military and rescue diver applications, so I expect reasonable durability.

The awesomeness is at no cost to you... Big Grin

I have unexpectedly grown fond of the BM Tanto blade. Plenty of blade (with double-edge grind) for normal cutting, and the flat angled tip is good for scraping. It functions like a straight-edge razor blade holder and comes in handy. And, if ever attacked by Samurai Zombies I don't have to worry about the blade tip breaking off too easily in their armor. One thing Steve didn't mention: the Tanto blade on the 583-1 is D2 compared to 154CM on the standard 580. I like D2.

I will agree fully this warn barrage is awesome! far better than the 580 mainly for the g-10 and d2 steel. It also seems to fire faster, locks up better and is center. My two previous barrage 580's were not that great.

Nice pics, Joe!

Wish I wasn't so photo-retarded these days! Mad

I gotta get some pics of my Warn-580 blade swap knife up for you guys.

I've been using this knife a lot, and it is really growing on me. It is a very functional blade and ergonomic package.
