Hey guys, Just bought my first Benchmade (Mini Stryker Nitrous Tanto) two days ago and was pumped to start using it as my new edc. Well, I was carrying it in my pocket and went to pull it out to show a friend and it dropped about 3' onto cement. Now the blade will not lock into the open position. There's no signs of damage whatsoever but the liner can't lock into place now because the tang is in the way. I have no idea what got messed up. I also noticed that now the main pivot screw is loose and can be unscrewed with just a little bit of pressure from my thumb. Any ideas/suggestions? Thanks, Ben

Take it apart and clean it if you can, or send it in to be cleaned.

Here's some pictures. Won't taking the knife apart void the warranty? Really confused as to what could have happened when the knife hit the ground that would cause this to happen..

I thought you dropped it "into" cement, nevermind. Seriously, something might have made it's way into the knife to keep it from opening fully. Try a spray solvent and compressed air if you have it. Does it close correctly?

Your 907D2 has an adjustable hex stop pin. Dropping the knife may have, under tension, forced it out of alignment by moving the lock so the knife can't be opened. If you can free the blade and close it, take a T6 Torx driver and loosen the set screw, which is just to the left side of the clip. When the set screw is loose it can be turned until there's enough room to align the tang. Once you have it right, and with the knife closed to relieve the tension, then open the blade slowly. Once the tang and lock are engaged, tighten the set screw to lock the adjustment in place. Having that set screw is a simple but very smart way to allow for adjustment as the Ti lock wears against the tang of the D2 blade. Hope that helps. 350, 520, 525BK-1101, 530, 580-1102, 580 Proto, 583-1, 585-1, 710-1, 710-2, 710D2, 710HS, 722, 732, 740, 740 Proto, 741, 745, 746, 746-1201, 750, 790, 800, 800HS, 805-1101, 810, 812, 830, 831, 835HS, 840, 845, 890, 905, 907D2, 910, 910SCG, 912D2, 913D2, 12400 Proto, 12410, 14205, 14210, 40022-100. Haha sorry, I should have clarified. Yes the knife closes correctly. It doesn't look like there is anything between the back of the blade and the stopping bar but I'll blow it out with the compressor when I have a chance. I really hope I can fix it

I don't know the knife as well as Joe, but looking at your pictures it appears that part of the problem is coming for the fact that the liner closest to your thumb is quite a ways away from the tang. You also mentioned that the pivot screw is backed out so far that you can spin it with your fingers. I'd try what Joe suggested in getting it all back into alignment then drive the pivot screw back in. Maybe the pivot screw was already out quite a ways when you dropped it and the shock caused it to pop out even more. ********************** ********************** You are the Sum of Your Actions. Don't waste your time with a compressor, the photos don't show anything unusual inside. The reason the knife won't lock is due to that hex set screw is loose. Tighten it until it's in the right angle so the lock can move so it mates with the tang. Unless something is bent, which it doesn't appear to be, that should fix your problem. If you can't fix it yourself, call Benchmade's customer support at 800-800-7427 and ask for support. If you do send the knife in for repair, don't send it inside it's black box, just wrap it carefully...the standard way to ship is to mail it via USPS Priority with Delivery Confirm. If your 906SBKD2 was that loose when you dropped it then your probably got it out of whack. Loosen it up again and keep dropping it till it gets back in position. then tighten back down. Where I live, a couple of unseen grains of sand can cause a problem. A little compressed air can be very useful. Good luck with your 906SBKD2.
