John W., you had concerns about the EdgePro giving a different angle depending where you set the spine of the knife. Maybe I'm not answering the same question that you have raised, but the spine of the knife always rests against an adjustable stop that is fixed in position. That's one of the first set-up adjustments that is made after changing knives. The back-stop is set and locked in place for each knife so that the edge of the blade hangs over the base by about a 1/4". So, blade position and the sharpening angle are always consistent after that.

Thanks for the clarity fastjan.

When I cheat...and use my Lansky...getting the same clamp just right in the same place with the same bite is a bit tricky each time.

Better to be a real man and learn to hone on a classic Smiths freehand!
