One of our BKC forum members, YTReich (Mark) asked me to post this up for him. This is something that Mark has been doing for years on his EDC knives and on the EDC knives of everyone that he sharpens for. So far - 100% satisfaction. He started out just putting the finishing touch on for a needle sharp tip - something that many of you probably already do, as in the following picture: When Mark made the transition from three bladed Stockmans to single bladed pocket knives, he missed the ability to have a "scraper blade", you know, the one that cleans battery terminals... One day he decided to extend the stroke further down the blade to create a sharp scraper edge without harming the fine cutting edge. The next pic shows where he "sharpened" the black coating off the spine for the first 1/2" or so of the tip. Here it is re-blackened with a sharpie. After he gets down to a nice, crisp, flat spine, he leaves the burr. That is what makes it a sharp scraper, which will easily take a nice curl of blue plastic (as an example), as shown below. Thanks Mark for a great Idea! ********************** ********************** You are the Sum of Your Actions. Knife Rights Member

a scraper edge could be really usefull i usually use the part of the back-edge near the handle to scale my fishes ... but for some tasks, a scraper near the edge could be better Charter Member #5, Lum Lunatics Boomerangs 'n Butterflies: An Osborne Alliance | Member #6

Good idea...too bad the sharpie doesn't last as long as I wish and the black doesn't match the factory coating but close enough. __________________________ * Allen Elishewitz Preservation Society Founding Member #3 * Brotherhood of the 420 & Viceroy of the Knights of the Gravitator Member * Lum Lunatics Charter Member #15 * President of the Gentleman Society for the Preservation of the 960 Innova * Boomerangs 'n Butterflies: An Osborne Alliance Member #2 * Blackwood Society member #610 Red, Blue and Black Class, Pre-Productions, Limited Editions

Not bad IIRC, the Chris Reeve Umnummzaan has a similiar feature (near the tip on the spine). That is, if I'm reading you right.. It's like a "semi sharp" surface, perfect for scarping. -Jon Sixburgh,PA

Yes, the Umnum has more like a harpoon edge or tip up there. It would probably work as a scraper....if I could ever bring myself to abuse it. ********************** ********************** You are the Sum of Your Actions. Knife Rights Member

Wow! I can really turn out one heck of a post when John does it! Now John, about the bill I got for this... did you build a whole website? I just wanted to publicly heap some praise in the proper direction. Couldn't have done it without you, my friend. Thanks a bunch for the feedback gentlemen, it is much appreciated. It's always darkest just before it goes totally black
