On another note, was it Roger's idea to make the print on the blade smaller? Good idea...

Got my DLC version today. The DLC coating is very different than the DLC'ed Ritter - much darker (thicker?) and the no tool marks showing through. The DLC blade looks fantastic! I do wish the DLC blade had the rounded spine of the stone wash version. My stone wash version is poorly finished - the scratch pattern is heavy and looks like it's been in my pocket w/ keys for a few years.

Both clips are pretty poor in my opinion - the sides of both clips are heavily pitted and the there are four clearly visible spots on the sides where the clip was connected to a mount or other metal. I assume the DLC clip is parkerized and it came "pre-scratched". I really wish BM would DLC or powder coat the clips. I paid $20 extra to DLC the blade, adding the clip to the mix can't be that much more and it would look much nicer, match the blade, and be durable.

The G10 on both feels much grippier than the regular stuff - no idea why. I like it a lot. Oddly, the lanyard hole on both of mine still has g10 material in it and had to be punched out leaving a rough edge.

Might sound like I'm complaining (OK - I am complaining) but overall I'm happy. I'm just annoyed that it seems like a little bit of extra care could have made these really top notch knives...

I have recieved one each of the uncoatesd and coated versions.

A cursory examination indicates that, yes, the "outer" edge is rounded and the G10 is grippier. I like the grippier G10.

Still, though, I'm carrying M2 - though I wish it were heat treated to a higher HrC.

Orthogonal1, (we've got to find you a shorter name, I think...ha!) I've wondered if additional heat treating could be undertaken at this point. I don't know much about it and I realize it might screw up the blade coating, but guys who do after-market work like Chax or Krein already do heat-treating and I wonder if they could run your M2's hardness up a few digits.

You can get M2, as well other steels, re-heat treated to different specifications.

I've thought about it, but I hedge when I think about the potential dimensional changes affecting functioning when refinishing.

So only the satin finish has the crowned spine?

The 520 needs an M4 blade.

I see what you mean - but only after grabbing my M4 710 for comparison. My DLC version seems a noticably less rounded than the plain blade...

I'm comparing M2, M4, 154cm, ats-34, and D2 to the M390 versions.
