While sitting here drinking my beer and snacking on cheezits I got to thinking about having the 950 made as a fixed blade... but bigger by about .75 inches, full spine and hollow ground.

I know it's probably been brought up before about making folders into a fixed design or vice versa.

what would you guys think about it?

something besides 154CM?
any other features you'd like to see change?

Yeah, maybe an S30V blade, or D2 with that sweet two-toned G10 treatment on the scales. I'd add at least one good sized choil to the front of the handle, though, ala 610/615...

Go for it!
The 950 is one of my favorites and I just happen to have it on me right now!
I would like to try and make some custom scales
from exotic woods, having seen some of the work
of a few forumites i am inspired, but I think I lack the skill and talent not to mention the proper tools. You have in this forum a treasure chest of knowledge to help you.
Good luck and keep us posted.

Dunno. In the long run, will it sell ???? There are a fair amount of FB in the lineup already.

Not to say that I don't like it. I am intrigued.

Nothing wrong with 154cm Smiler.

Put it this way: The fixed grip has it, so do the folding grips. So with that, why change it up ?

That sounds like an excellent idea.

If it was a fixed blade then BM could add a jimped "finger coil" between the blade and the handle (bottom, edge of blade) similar to a Military. BM could also add alot of jimping to the top part of the blade.

Can anyone picture what I'm trying to explain?

Blade Tech kydex sheath w/ MOLLE back and locks of course. That handle sticking out of a black/grey sheath would be too cool.

I'd buy one can't ya tell. Smiler

D2 would just sweeten the deal.

Well, the 950 is a great design, and a fixed version would be great too. I see the Rift handle design as a small knife design, with the pinky and ring fingers straddling that rear peak in the handle profile. That is what makes the design work from an ergonomic standpoint. So I would want to keep it about the same size as the folder. Also I prefer my blade to be sharpened. If you want control, the handle should provide it. I don't like wasting cutting edge by turning the blade into part of the handle. That's a Spyderco trademark. Roll Eyes

But no matter what, a Fixed Rift would not be more versatile and ergonomic than a Nimravus anyway. If a new design isn't better than the Nim or the Fixed Grip in some way, there isn't much point in it.

I didn't know that was a Spyderco trademark. When I think Spyderco I think of a hole in the blade. Like an 806.

I was thinking more on the lines of a RAT RC3.
