so...I'm looking at the presidio the other day, and I think, man, that's a nice knife.

THEN, I see the presidio ultra, and think, well if the presidio is good, then the ULTRA, well that must be awesome!

until I noticed that the "ultra" is less expensive than your basic 520. It looks basically the same, it's got a slightly bigger blade, and it's about 25-30 bucks cheaper than the original (at that one place).

Anybody got a reason not to buy the ultra instead of the 520?

Metal or plastic.

That's the difference.

Also, the 520 has a higher grade of steel than the Ultra.

To add to the differences, the Ultra has a hollow grind whereas the original has more of a double beveled edge to it.

Another way to look at is do you like Bud or Bud lite?

Just my 2 cents, but get the 520, then you'll own one of the toughest tank built BM's out there. It very well could save you alot of $'s down the road because you won't need any other BM's. Sure you may want others, but the 520 will handle pretty much anything you care to throw at it.

If I didn't have a custom micarta 520A, I'd be all about putting a flat ground 154CM 520 blade in the Ultra handle.

I like the "get both" option. Of course, my wife and daughter do like to "eat regularly"...so maybe not both at the same time!
