I agree with the original poster. I'm not "mad" at Benchmade...I knew they were coming eventually, but I'm too busy to come back and check every day or pour through threads to get the inside line.

What irks me a little bit is that it seems to be the same handful of people that buy up a bunch then immediately post them on all the popular forums for a huge mark-up. Good for them I suppose, but it seems a little slimy somehow nonetheless.

I would have liked to have gotten one, sure, but I'll live. This one was particularly exciting though, as it's the first Benchmade I've actually wanted to buy in a long time. Oh well- I can always occupy myself with the "USB Bali" a dealer sent me as a freebie. Roll Eyes

I hope you are joking. If anyone was going to get one I thought you would be one of the first.

Could we also get a 630 with an axis lock?

Hmmmmm.....glad to see everyone kissed and made up Razzer.

My own thoughts, for what it's worth (probably not a whole lot.....but here me out).

I can definitely understand the frustration on not getting one. And I definitely feel bad for those that didn't.

Unfortunately, it's the nature of the business these days. With the economy the way it is, profits have taken more precedence for the time being, and unfortunately, this is one of those instances (intentional or not on BM's part).

With that said, if there's something that you desire, you've pretty much have to stay more vigilant than ever. It's probably come to the point that you have to watch that pot boil (old adage be damned). Dare I say let it dominate your existance (well OK, maybe not to that extreme, but you've really got to play the early bird, and have the tenecity of a wolverene).

And with that said, there are companies out there that try and make a point to let their customers know what's coming out, and at what time frame. I'm not blasting on ones that don't, but given that, with some you've got to really keep your eyes and ears peeled to the max.

Obviously, that's not the greatest way to do business, but it is a reality, nonetheless (and like I said, I'm not passing judgement on any knife purveyor for that)

And with the theorems of supply and demand, you've got to be willing to pay a premium for what you want sometimes (and these days, it happens more and more). It seems to be the trend of the industry.

Put it this way (and I'm not trying to be a smarty pants here): If you think 350 is a lot, try going 4, 5, 6 hundred......hell, try over a grand. There are some blades (even some productions) that I've seen go for those figures. Again, it's the trend of the industry.

Myself, I don't think I even blinked when I saw what the secondary market prices were (I'm not bragging or anything here, but I've spent a good bit more than that on some of the knives I own).

Before you say: well that's nice Jon, must be nice being rich and all. I'm far from it. Got three other mouths to feed, and the normal crap that happens in life (paying for food, shelter, transportation, etc). I'm not all that well off.

Would I have liked to nab one ???? Darn tootin' I would have. But unfortunately, the timing wasn't right for me. I'm in the process of moving, and I've got to get my ride inspected.

Am I bummed ?? A little bit, but I'm not losing sleep over it. There will be other opportunites later (and besides, I've got my eye on some other stuff that I want before the 806 Wink ).

But if you want it that bad, you'll find a way to get it. If you won't pay the price, someone else will.

Having said that, I'll be damned if I'd complain about what someone charges. Am I happy about it ? No (and who would be) but I understand the one underlying thing about this society: If someone is selling something, they have the right to charge what they damn well please. It's their business, their knife, and I'm sure they've got their reasons why they put the price on what they're selling. I've no right to complain about it. Frankly, like I said, it's none of my business.

Like I said, sometimes, you've got to pay the price if you want something bad enough. I've been in that boat before. I ended up selling a few knives to get what I wanted. And other times, I've eaten cheap to get what I wanted.

Again, that's the nature of the business.

Does it take away from the enjoyment ??? Sometimes it does (I've said before it can take away from the magic...I'll make no bones about it). But as I've stated, it is reality, and it is what it is. Nothing is going to change it. And it hasn't taken away completely for me. I still love buying, and using, high performance cutlery. There's a lot of good stuff out there, and there's gonna be some new stuff at every turn.

That's what keeps me loving this crazy hobby of ours, and it keeps me coming back for more Smiler

...And with that, I'll go stick the kids in a stroller, stick my ever faithfull 710hssr in my pocket, and head to Starbucks Big Grin.

M-2 still rules, and is your master.....bow and worship Razzer

Wink

You're like John - you would be a TERRIBLE politician. You speak the truth which is a foreign concept to politicians. That's why you two get my vote. Wink

So Joe said: Interesting times call for interesting measures it seems...although I'm not sure what "normal" times look like much anymore...

As Jon said:

Thanks Jon, good words.
