I was pleasantly surprised to spot what appears to be a Barrage (580sbk) on the first segment of the Colbert Report last night (8/18, available online).

Interesting, in that the taste of the prop department seems to be improving, and that the knife being brandished is currently (and illegally) classified as illegal in NYC, where the show tapes.

I say bravo! Benchmade gets the Colbert bump and Vance gets a veiled middle finger.

I'm no good with IDing specific models but there's definitely a butterfly on the side of the blade.

Aside: also pleasantly surprised that there's another Colbert fan on here. Wink

Aside 2: I always thought CA was the worst re: knife laws, but at least you can possess balis if not carry them, and you can carry small autos. Both appear illegal in my state, and NY seems even worse.

I enjoy Stephen Colbert. I think he is the smartest comic on TV. I am surprised that a Benchmade made an appearance on his show, but you never know what he's going to do.

Boston has the worst knife laws, not New York.

My find had to go to court over his Barrage. Got charged with possession of a deadly weapon. Ended up getting probation. His probation was the best thing that happened to him because it helped him get clean.

Don't forget the movie Kick-Ass. The little girl asks for two Benchmade Balisong knives by name and gets them and kills people with them.

It caught me off guard when she asked her dad for a benchmade by name though. Pretty cool!

Hear hear. If it weren't for that movie I wouldn't have had a chance to handle some 42s. The prices before the "reprint" were getting a little insane.
