I saw one before, but to me it's not worth $50-75 over cэurrent market. And even then it's only worth that much to a hardcore AFCK collector. Other then the engraving it's not different from any other 8i00SBT's out there.
Either the seller was bidding up his own lot, or there where two people with sentimental connections to that knife and money to burn on ebay at the same time. I don't see a third scenario here.

+1. Damn! That's a HUGE amount of money spent for that knife. I was amazed to see the winning bid of $655 not even including shipping. Eeker

The other thing is; there were only two main bidders in the whole process...which makes me suspect the same thing, bidding up was done here.

I got one like that in M2 steel, (without the SOF embelem on it) a friend bought for me in the US around that time period, I don't remember the exact price, but I think it was around $100.

The SOF emblem adds value. I sold an old Taylor Cutlery tanto with the SOF emblem stamped on the tang and I was surprised how fast some old fire pisser snatched it up. He had a bunch of memories attached to the blade and the emblem.
