So I was wondering if I had a fixed Grip, if I could remove the Zytel scales and cord wrap the handle. I know that BM likes to run a bolt into the tang and secure it through the butt of the handle. I also know that to cord wrap, there needs to be a couple if not 3 holes in the tang. So I'm wondering if the fixed grip lends itself to wrapping. Any help is appreciated.

there are 2 brass nuts embedded in the handle and 2 other holes in the handle. im sure the brass nuts could be removed without much trouble goving you at least 4 holes i remember. i think the center is also hollow, dont quote me on that though.

Imho cord wrapping isn't very good unless you replace the cord frequently.

rope tends to wear out while wrapped on a handle, not to mention if you get into a survival situation (the whole reason for wrapping cord around your handle) then you will end up with a bare tang and rope (rope that may have been damaged while wrapped)

if it's purely for aesthetics it's definately cool looking, but, again imho loses a good portion of its reliability.

I certaintly don't mean to discourage your efforts in any respect, I'm just stating my opinion.

Cool, guys. I'm just fond of the look, but I don't think that's the way to go with a Grip. Maybe I'll just wait a month or so and pick up an Izula

I think you'd have an easier time wrapping the izula.. Theres a really helpful video of it on youtube too if you need it..

Besides, is a griptilian still a griptilian if you remove the grips and replace them with paracord? Razzer

That is a good point...although I'm fond of the look, it's kind of like donating your BMW to meals on wheels, isn't it?

OTOH, if you wrapped a grip, it would still be an amazing blade, Zytel scales or no. The Izula got a great review from Tactical Knives, though, so probably also a good choice.

BTW, the AFO II got a great review also...
