Let me start by saying hello, I'm new here and do not know alot about knives, I recently purchased a 710-01 brass and winewood and a few other benchmades from a friend and would like some info. I was told this was the place to come. Does anyone know what year that knife was made? is it rare? how do I care for it? is there a collectors value or should I use it? any help would be greatly appreciated, I dont know much.
the others are:
mel pardue 720
shoki first production
kulgera first production
mini dejavoo
mini skirmish

sorry I did not have this earlier, I had to find the boxes to read what they were.

The 710-01 is pretty rare now. Others will tell you a year cause I don't know. As for care I know that these have a D2 blade, so they will rust if left with finger prints for a long period of time. I would use either tuff cloth or wipe it down with a light coating of oil if you are going to store it for a length of time. As for the wood it should be fine for a long time. If it shows wear maybe a light wax. Brass is another that can stain if left with prints or stuff on it. A brass polish like Wiemans you can find in most grocery store could help if it is really dirty.

Welcome to my world ......and welcome to the forum.
I use Renaissance Wax on the wood and Tuff cloth on the blade and I,d say its collectable.
Having no pocket clip makes it hard to carry for me ................

Welcome to the forums.

The 710-01 is one of my all time favorite Benchmade knives. I love the looks of it and have had mine on display since I first got it.

The knife was originally done in 2002, as can be see Here.
There were 50 Prototype released, and then the normal run was *supposed* to be 300 more.

**Somebody please correct me on the following information if I am recalling it incorrectly.**

Digging through my memory, I recall reading that Benchmade had some issues producing this knife because of the Brass handles and Winewood inserts. They ended up having to mix and match parts from the run to assemble what they could. This resulted in a final production run of between 150-180 non-sequentially numbered knives, plus the 50 Prototypes. The highest number I've seen is in the low 200's, but not that many were produced.

The care and value part can go hand in hand. Here is a picture of the complete knife and what it came with. If you're missing any of those, it affects the collectors value. If you decide to use it then completeness doesn't matter.
Also, it's Brass. Brass patinas over time. If you have an antique brass item that's been polished up, it's usually worthless. The patina adds value. This isn't an antique though, and people like new items nice an shiny. So it's up to you in that regard. For normal care the others advice is good to go with. I personally use Nevr-Dull.

Hope some of that helps. Smiler

She'll be a true classy classic. I have #262 out of the non-sequential lot.

If you're not strapped for cash and think it's a beaut, I'd hold on to it!!!!

I expect nothing from anyone. I am entitled to nothing tangible. I am an American Original.

I'm looking to buy specific Red, Blue, Black, & Green 940 variants. PM me! Big Grin

Welcome to the forum!

In current market I'd price it $450 to $500 in NIB condition.

At least one sold on ebay for over $600 few months ago, but I didn't trust that listing, seemed like the buyer was bidding up the price, and price like that are completely unrealistic, unless you run into a 710 collector who's been after this particular model for a very long time and had no luck. Again - almost impossible.
