Is a great steel Big Grin

I must admit that 154CM is the steel I can make sharper than any other steel that it is almost sad. I can get S30V razor sharp, but I get 154 so darned sharp that hair dont cut off but literally 'fly' off and will push cut tissue paper. People often knock 154 and VG-10 for some odd reason but both steels are still excellent performers for folders and fixed blades, and these knives usually carry a reasonable price point. I HACK with the 154 Fixed Presidio and it keeps an edge long, does not chip, and possibly most important for a field knife/combat folder is that it is easy to sharpen. Overall 154 still kicks butt!!! Horray 154!

That is all.

+1 Zac, 154cm is just about my favorite also. Great edge capability and easy to keep it that way. Smiler

I don't find people knocking 154CM or VG-10. In fact they seem to be the favorite among quite a few people, including me.

Perhaps you haven't come across some of the self proclaimed "steel snobs" that fequent this forum as well as others Big Grin.

I agree, though, 154CM and CPM154 (I'm not too clear on the difference) are great steels... I own plenty of blades which use them, and they are probably my favorite.

i guess i'm in the minority here. i don't actively dislike 154 but i won't buy knives in it anymore. i'd go with 440c or ATS34 before 154CM. just had some underwhelming experiences with it.

CPM - Powder Metallurgy. Meaning, all steel components are ground into fine powder prior to the melting part, that assures even structure of steel, ie no large carbide chunks chipping off when you sooooooo close to that wicked 8 degrees per side edge you've been working on for few hours. it makes a whole lot more sense when it's tool steel being discussed. didn't see much of a difference stainless 154CM and powder-stainless CPM 154CM

I've always found ATS-34 and 154CM to perform quite similarly. Confused

Wow, from what I've read, they're all just about close enough to be almost indistinguishable from one another. I'm surprised. (but hey! favorites are a good thing Wink )

Cool
