My list would go

1. Buck 110
2. Case Stockman
3. Spyderco Delica/Endura
4. Opinel folders
5. Benchmade 42

Honorable mention to the SAK.

I agree with your list Mark but I would also add the first Kershaw/Onion "Speed Safe" assisted open knives. I think it was the Kershaw Whirlwind.

It revolutionized assisted opening knives that can be legal in areas where autos are illegal for the public...like Canada.

Terzoula ATCF (first modern liner lock tactical folder)
Spyderco Endura-Delica (Spyder hole, FRN lock-back everyman's knife)
Sebenza (Frame lock, precision production)
Emerson CQC7 (chisel ground blade)
710 Axis (Axis lock)
Benchmade (Pacific Cutlery) Balisong

I know that is six, but tell me how you could leave any of them off...

Some like to call the modern liner lock a Walker lock, but Walker didn't invent it either.

I don't really know how much time it takes for a knife to reach icon status, so it's hard for me to put knives like the 710 on the list. But I certainly think the Axis lock is destined for icon-hood.

Personally, I would have rather put the Mayo TnT on the list in the place of the Sebenza, but if I understand correctly, it was the Sebenza that inspired the TnT, and there are certainly more Sebenzas in use. For the most part, I think every modern frame lock folder was inspired by the Sebenza.

Like all knife nuts putting together a top five list, there are at least an equal number of honorable mentions that could have gone on the list, depending on what a person had for breakfast:

Original Ken Onion Speed-safe
Case Stockman
Any SAK or Boy Scout knife
Spyderco Police
Microtech LUDT button lock auto
The Italian Stelleto automatic
Buck 110 (too dated now, there are no more brass framed, lock-back high-end knives)
Emerson Commander

I think this was the first knife to use MIM (Metal Injected Molding.) It was the start of production knives on a larger scale. Firearms were using it before Kershaw started to great effect. Please correct me if I'm wrong?

Rx, where did Ken Onion's Black Out fit into the AO market? Was this #2?

Sorry, I'm not knowledgeable to add to the list.
GREAT THREAD!! Blue Class

I'm not sure about the Blackout. Second one was Mini Task IIRC.
