I tie a lot of lanyards but I usually end up taking them off my knives. I find it just doesn't work for me. I do put them on zipper pulls on coats, backpacks, go bags, etc.

Small point of lexicography...a lanyard is a long loop of cord which connects some tool or weapon to the body, usually around the neck or to a belt. A short article extending from the handle of a tool to aid in grasping, or merely for decoration, is a fob.

Big Grin

The hangman's knot is a special case where a fob can be unwound into a lanyard.

I like to put lanyards on my big blades, anything that will be used for chopping. I usually tie them loosely in a figure eight or a weave of some kind when not in use. I like a fob on any smaller blade that I don't think of as a self-defense carry. Fobs get in the way in ice pick grip, so I leave them off any knife I think I might use in that fashion.

Thought I might try making some of these and see how they turn out. After searching endless youtube videos, I finally found one that I could follow. My first one didn't turn out too bad if I do say so myself Smiler

yep. I tried to keep it as simple as possible. I guess the box stitch is supposed to be the easiest as well. I don't know

The box is easier than some of the multiple strand braids, for sure. Some of those can get pretty confusing. This one looks great...have a ball!

I have had damascus and mokume lanyard beads made for me from a knifemaker in Argentina. He does amazing work. He even has made a damascus pendant for me. I will find his site in a moment.

Here is one of his mokume beads. He also includes the leather with it.

Wow, thanks, BigJon. Mokume gane is something I've read a lot about ever since I started goldsmithing. Problem is, whenever I was working hard enough to have the money to try it, I never had the time, and vice-versa. You can buy blanks from places like Rio Grande Supply, but I wanted to make my own blanks.

For beads, I just may go ahead and buy them! These are way cool. And I like the cable "damascus." I REALLY like the bicycle chain stuff!!
