EDC Advice Please - Emissary??

Looking for a new EDC blade and as I now live in Turkey cannot get to see and handle a Benchmade to make my own assesment. There are Benchmades on sale here but ALL CHEAP Chinese fakes.

I am looking for something for light to medium EDC use - I carry a fixed blade if I think I will need something for serious work.

From going through the range the one that appeals at the moment is the 470 Emissary

Positives - Blade length, weight, good steel, deep pocket carry (assisted opening a bonus)

Not so sure - blade wıdth (think it might be the slimmest benchmade) and how the handle will stand up to wear. Lanyard hole also seems to be very small, does not look like paracord would go through it - this would not be a deal breaker

How do you rate the 470 pluses and minuses and any other suggestions to look at.

Good steel is important and you cannot search the Benchmade site by blade material.

Thanks

I dont like the 470 but most other guys on this forum do. Personally I think the best EDC knife Benchmade produces is in their HK line, the Nitrous Blitz. Nitrous assist is the best assist in the world IMO, and I work on/handle on a day to day basis a ton of knives. Extremely light and durable knife, I carried one for 3.5 years and its still going strong.

Thanks for that Dingo.

Had a look at your vid on Youtube and the Blitz does look a nice knife but liner locks not my favourite.

Then I'd probably say go with a Griptillian. Cheaper, still lightweight, strong, good steel, more durable (IMO) and a better blade shape.

Best small EDC sized Benchmades are the 525/527, 943, and 585. Those are kinda bigger.

I like the 707 better than the 470 personally.

I thought I wanted a 470 until I got to handle one. It is too small for my hand and I got a real unsettling feeling when the assist kicked in. I felt like I could not get a proper grip on it so that my grip did not shift when the assist fired.

Like Po says, I would have a 525 and a 527 if I could find a decent deal on them. My most recent purchase was a 943 and it is in my front pocket for nearly a week now. Like it lots.

If KW had a 707 in stock, I would have one on order now. I may break down and order a black one just to say that I tried a modern black coating.

I find the 940/943 much easier to handle and not much bigger to carry.

Right on, feathers73. My 943 is just right. 940 or 943, less pointy or more pointy, pick your blade type and enjoy. Osborne really understands the human hand.

What kind of EDC are you looking for? Office/dress/church EDC? The Emissary would fit the bill, or a 770 if you can find one on theBay. The 707 Sequel would work also.

Everyday/work/casual/everywhere EDC? Not the Emissary. mini-Griptilian, mini-Barrage, mini-Hardtail (Harley Davidson line, D2 steel, 3.25" blade), mini-Presidio (KW still has some M4 mini-Presidios left, I think) would fit better.
