Well, someone probably mentioned this, but Crucible has only filed for Chapter 11, which just holds their creditors at bay while they reorganize and make their business entity more efficient. Basically, they will come out of it leaner and meaner, or they won't survive and will be forced to declare Chapter 7 bankruptcy which usually results in a buy-out or liquidation.

So, they are "sick in bed", so to speak, but not "laying in a coffin."

Lets hope the Chapter 11 reorganization does its job and the company can survive, in tact.

That is true fj. It just makes me think that companies are in an unfavorable position. Not that I'm fond of their products, but I know that United Cutlery filed Chapter 11 a couple years back and they're still around.

Right on, Chang. So for United Cutlery a reorganization worked.

I read somewhere that 154CM was originally used for the turbine fans on jet engines. That's another industry that has been in a slump, which may have hindered Crucible's sales. Same with the steel they probably sold for manufacture in the tool & die industries.

As all of these companion industries rebound, hopefully Crucible will too. You'd think they would since they make a great line of superior products that are unique....even though knife steel is probably just a tiny portion of what goes out their door.

Yeah, I just hope they come out of this intact. I'm less of a steel snob than some Big Grin...but I still want my USA-made knives to be made with USA-made steel too.
