You guys have seen me post on here the last few weeks. I got bitten by the Knife bug bad about 2 months ago, and until my wife figures out my boss gives me 800 a month in cash in addition to my paycheck, Im gonna keep buying more. Im sick and I know it. Anyway, I have bought strictly Benchmades. I have a Rift, A Barrage, a mini Barrage, a Griptillian, and the 710 LE with Super 360 Steel. I keep thinking I want to buy a GREAT EDC to carry everyday. Ive looked at Bradley Alias 1, the new Hogue Eishenwitz EX01, a bunch of different knives. Then I go use my Barrage, and I relize " THIS IS MY PERFECT KNIFE" I mean I really love it. I got the partial serrations on it ( it was my first buy, after I figured out Smith&Wesson was garbage) and I even love those serrations on my EDC. Ive read that guys are switching the blades between there Barrage and Warns, so basically they have the Barrage with G-10 handles. Is this as easy as it sounds? Do you switch the blades, or just switch the scales? If I can get my Barrage blade into a warn knife that will be cool!!!

IIRC it is just a matter or switching the scales. But I am going off memory from topics posted awhile ago. I have never done it, nor have I owned either so don't trust me on this!!!

You may want to do a search on the topic as I think it has been discussed. You should post these topics in a diff subsection to. They aren't reviews more like questions suited for general knife discussion....they will probs get more attention in that subsection as well.

This prolly should've been placed in Knives and Rescue tools, but next time maybe...

Anyway, G-10 scales make all the difference on the look and feel of the Barrage models. I don't understand why Benchmade made this decision, 'cuz the LE Mini that came out in machined G-10 really makes the knife what it SHOULD have been all along. (My opine, pet peeve...)

To add to this, for the large Barrage, BM made the R&D and following Proto in G-10...I have the Proto and LE Mini and the difference in the way they feel is, well, what it is. Better.

I have removed the scales on the mini to see what's inside, and it was easy. The large has only four screws as well and while I don't want to mess with it SHOULD be just as easy to pull 'em off.

I would LOVE to ssee BM make replacement scales available, as they did with the Rukus scale inserts a couple of years ago or so.

Now on swapping the blade from the 580 large Barrage to the 583 WARN I haven't done it, so would invite anyone who has to let us know itf it's hard or easy...I imagine even with the spring involved it would be the same process as swapping blades on manual Axis models.

It is a straight scale swap, unless you want to keep the red spacer. It is easy either way if you can remove screws without ruining them.
