I like both materials for handles, but I like CF more. It's light and strong, and to me has a better feel to it than G10 - hard to describe but almost "warmer". Plus I prefer the look of CF.

I agree with GPM. I'll also add that of the two, G-10 is usually the one that I find is hardest to grasp. It can be pretty slippery especially in cooler weather.

g10 on the torrent is slick i would agree, even though the shape feels perfect. but rift is far from hard to grip. enough texture to choke a horse.

You know, when it comes right down to it, there is really very little difference in the materials between G10 and Carbon Fibre.

Both use Epoxy resin as the binding agent, where they differ is the the 'cloth' used to make the shape. G-10 uses fibreglass cloth and Carbon Fibre uses (can you guess??) Carbon Fibre Cloth.

For use as a knife handle, there really should be no real discerible difference between the two when it comes to feel. Any stippling or checkering will make a far greater difference in feel and grip.

that said, there could easily be differences in feel between the two based on the specific Epoxy used to make the material, but the type of Fibre used will have little to no bearing on the surface, as it is fully embedded in the Epoxy.

The primary difference in an application like this is visually. Because Glass fibre cloth is a lower grade (and cost) material than CF cloth, the weaving tends to be less strictly controlled than does CF, and hence visually crappier. So, rather than have a handle that looks crappy beacuse of bad fibreglass weave, manufacturers add dye to the Epoxy to make it black (or blue, red, green, orange, tan, Day-glo puke yellow, whatever). And since CF cloth is of much greater quality, the epoxy is left in its natural clear state so everyone can enjoy looking at the weave.

If one were so inclined, anyone could make their own G-10 or CF scales in whatever colour and shape they desire. The materials are commonly available on the net, even most towns and cities locally - especially along the coast. Just go to your local boating shop that sells repair items...

Hmmm, now that's an idea, maybe I'll do a custom set of coloured CF scales for my Emerson. Got the Epoxy in the garage, just need to order a yard of CF and a bit of dye Wink
