I just love an AFCK. Got more Benchmades than I can keep track of but still like the AFCK best of all. Have retired the M2 AFCK's to the safe as I feel they are too valuable to risk loosing. Still use on occasion the first Benchmade I ever purchased a 800S. So smooth and still perfect lock-up.

JUst got a 760BK in early April. Great knife and the steel seems good. For a 4" blade it looks short relative to the handle. However the handle is shorter than an AFCK. Go figure. It is the lack of taper in the handle I guess. Sort of slow to deploy from your pocket is the only thing I can fault.

Two weeks ago got a deal on a NIB 740BK. Wow what a knife. Something about the handle put me off when they were first introduced. Now that I have one, I can't figure out what I didn't like. It isn't an AFCK but I don't care. Touched-up the edge a little and it is so scary sharp. Rides very low in the pocket. Put your thumb on the hole inside the pocket, pull it from your pocket with a slight downward hand flick--you have 3.95" of S30V open--ready to attack the mail, string or whatever.

For me, at least, the frst real replacement to the AFCK. I will be getting a couple more of these!

Just remember, as with all such things your mileage may vary.

Thanks for an excellent tip. I just got a 740BK and gripping the thumb hole works really well for pocket access. The process works a little less so on the 745 due to the hole being smaller.

While I find I prefer the 745, the 740's grown on me this last number of days, and the blacked out details look really great!

I think a lot of potential buyers are put off by the liner lock. I know that some had problems with the 740’s lock when they first came out. I also believe that for those that consider buying the 745/740 over the Internet may be put of by the promotional photo. I know I was. I finally decided to buy a 745 few months back and was shocked when I removed it from the box. This knife is a stunner in the looks department. Better yet, it has all the things you guys mentioned as well. I consider it one of the most underrated models in the catalog.

I really do like the design and feel of the 745, but one phrase just keeps on haunting me...liner lock...I've been spoiled by the Axis lock, but I don't know if that will prevent me from getting one these forever...

Good comparison between the 800 and the 740.
For those of us who had one or can't get a hold of an AFCK, the 740 is a good alternative. I just got a 740SBK on the bay for about $90 shipped.

I really like the 745 model. Fits my hand pretty well and good for most EDC cutting tasks. I have used mine at a couple BBQ's and it performed like a champ.

I also have a 745 framelock (STR) that is even better.

I know that Joe posted a picture of a framelock version of the 745 before, but please post pictures of yours. I loved to see the modified version. Big Grin
