Very cool info. Thanks Joe. What I'm really looking forward to is putting a nice edge on this once my GATCO system comes. Been using a Sharpmaker. In fact I had to even out the bevel on this one. Tough job with the SM. I plan on putting a micro edge on it when the GATCO gets in. I do mostly push type cuts. Not really needing a slicer with this one.

Anyhow, yeah it's a user. That $30 satin finish is interesting to me. We'll see how it goes. This is my first Benchmade. Really digging the Axis lock and the reach of the 710. Thanks for all the good info/options.

oh, and by the way, I get this real funny image of a bunch of people sitting around at Fuddruckers flicking their Benchmades at the table at once. Hacienda Crossings. I know it well. Big Grin

I think it looks beautiful, just like it is. Smiler

...but if you want to take it off, take a green Scotchbrite pad to it and you'll have it mostly off in a few minutes. It is only putting that beautiful sheen like on Joe's knife on what was originally a very roughly finished blade that takes time. The steel finish under the coating isn't very smooth.

I've wondered about that, whether there are two runs of blades, one for satin and the other for BK. What was underneath the coating WAS rough and DID take a lot of work to smooth out.

A wire brush wheel on a bench grinder gets the job done fast.

Some 600 grit wet'n dry paper would make the rear of the blade look like the front. Maybe that's a look you'd like...still gray, but even.
