I own 520 and 525 Presidios and have just ordered a 522 and 527 Ultra.

Will the blades be interchangeable?

Today I swapped the blades between my 525 and 527. They are directly interchangeable.

I prefer the 525's 154CM flat grind, but the Noryl GTX scales of the 527 Ultra.
I now have the best of both knives in one package.. and will sell the other half of the hybrid; the hollow ground 440C bladed and aluminium scaled knife.

Thanks for the information Steven. I really do wonder why BM decided to go with a hollow ground blade for the 522/527. I could live with the 440C, but I was looking at the 522 last night and the blade is just way too thin for my liking.

I was reading about this issue a bit ago relating to the manix 2 when it was first released and spyderco's decision to use a HG. From what most people said it came down to two things, 1) HG is cheaper to manufacture, and 2)there is more of a mass market appeal for the HG among "non-knife nuts" if you will.

Disclaimer: This information was from forum posts I read and may not be 100% correct, just passing on what I have heard.

I think the hollow grind allows for the blade to be lighter in weight. That may be another reason for it. *shrug*

Hollow grinds give a thiner edge and are supposed to beasier to sharpen. I have read that a lot of knife buyers think the hollow grind is more attractive.
Actually I would much rather have a full flat grind or the high flat grind of the 520/525. I would hope that BM doesn't put out too many more hollow grinds. I personally will not buy a hollow grind.
