My 15030 arrived today. I had high hopes that this knife would be the perfect 3" blade knife. I love the G10 scales and backspacer. The blade matches up to the thumb ramp better than the 525. Unfortunately, it isn't perfect. When I open the knife, my thumb just catches the corner of the scales by my forefinger. What to do? If I put a 525 blade in, I loose the thumb ramp. That doesn't get me where I want to be. I can put the scales and backspacer on 5500 liners, the auto Axis mechanism and blade but again I loose the thumb ramp. Maybe I need a 15020 instead. Is the clearance on a 15020 larger from the hole to corner of the scales?

How do people function without carrying a knife?

If anybody by chance knows the owner of a Green & Black Scale 15020 PE #40 or the smaller 15030 #40, would you let me know, Please.. I would Gladly take a Serrated Blade too.. I'll Pay for it..
This is the 100th year anniversary of Boy Scouts Of America. My 7 year old son is in Troop 40.. The Cub Scout Master for our district Troop 40 has volunteered 20+ years to help in this organization & I thought it would be appropriate to give him an Honorary Award & Gift (like this Knife) and have his Name engraved on the Blade with the BSA Logo. If I can find a #40 knife like this. That would Be AWWESOME. The people on the Board want to give him a knife out of the BSA catalogue that costs $19.99 & its a piece of junk made in Taiwan..
So, if by chance anyone knows or has any idea's of where I can find one, I'd sure appreciate any info you have to offer..
Thanks
Eric

I got to spend some time with a 15030 today. I love the handle and the size of the blade, but I don't care for the hole opener. While I can use the hole to open the blade, the hole is too small for me to comfortably open the blade. I bet I would say the same thing about the 555HG if I spent some time with it too. I suppose if BM made the hole bigger, your finger would catch even more on the corner of the scales like I believe mbw is saying. Actually, I might even be saying the same thing as mbw.

I had high expectations for the 15030, but I don't think I'll ever get one, unless BM makes one with a thumbstud on it. Ah well, perhaps it wasn't meant to be. I have my other BM sub 3 inchers to fullfill my needs. Smiler

I've gotta agree with you and mbw on this one. I run into the same thing with the 525 and the thumbstud, but not as much since the thumbstud has some length. With the hole, it's not the most pleasurable to open. My thumb rubs pretty good on the edge of the scales whle trying to open it. It's doable, but not real smooth. I bought two of these, and I'll probably let one go because of this.

Got some sad news today, the dealer I ordered the knife from can only get my knife on back-order, arriving in another 3 moths!

Their shipment is arriving this week and apparently Benchmade did not have stock of the 15020-1.

Its not like I cant order the knife online, I know the tariff codes for customs, but I really want to support the dealer because there are great people working there but damn! How long is this knife going to elude me!
