Better the cistern than under the rim of the bowl. =) __________________________ Griptilian: 1x Gold, 1x M2, 3x M4, 3x S30V, 2x D2, 4x Ritter, 1x NRA, 1x Blackwater, 2x Cabelas Rukus: 610 Proto, 610 1st Prod, 615 Proto, 615BK, 615-1, 615-2, 615SBK-2

I favor my 741 when it comes to food prep. _________________________ Charter Member #3 Lum Lunatics : Ship's Sniper Member of "The Society for the Preservation of The AFCK"

I would imagine 740 would do fine.

I'm still here! I just replaced my old EDC (some other brand) with a 710. For small jobs it's sometimes easier to reach into my pocket and use my EDC for cutting food. I have a nice Chef's knife I use for bigger jobs when I'm preparing for the whole family. I agree rinsing in the sink can remove lube if not careful. I use mineral oil as well. Anyhow, the 710 is working out fine for these tasks. The handle/grip is extremely comfortable in the hand. The reach of the blade is nice too. Probably could use a bit more width to the blade overall for chopping. I almost bought the 740 a few years ago. Bought my former EDC instead. Thanks for the replies.

To be honest I'd rather have a thorough cleaning, which would certainly get rid of the lube. You can always wipe it down with oil afterwards if the steel calls for it (e.g. uncoated D2). Especially if you regularly clean and dry your knife, the more stain resistant steels don't need as much oil. On a barely related note, is ATS-34 considered more stain resistant (e.g. 154CM) or less (e.g. D2)? That's the first steel the 710 was produced in and I'm not very familiar with its properties. __________________________ Griptilian: 1x Gold, 1x M2, 3x M4, 3x S30V, 2x D2, 4x Ritter, 1x NRA, 1x Blackwater, 2x Cabelas Rukus: 610 Proto, 610 1st Prod, 615 Proto, 615BK, 615-1, 615-2, 615SBK-2
