I'm interested all of y'alls experiences and recommendations on folder EDC sheaths.

I'm thinking nylon and a horizontal carry position might be idea for me...but not really sure. Frowner

The small benchmade sheath is not too bad but I'd rather have one that I can detach without having to take off my belt every time....and it doesn't have a horizontal carry option.

Should I go nylon or leather?
Snap or velcro or both or snap buckle?
Horizontal or vertical carry?

I'm not in a supa-cold environment, so no real chance of velcro slippage. ...but not a fan of the "rrrrrrrrrrrrip" sound...buuuuut I like the low weight of velcro over snaps....and snap-buckles are quite thick and bulky. I'm lost...heeeeelp! Big Grin

Thoughts?

I've used nylon/velcro and leather snap pouches in the vertical orientation. My leather pouches hold their shape better than my nylon ones, much easier to get the knife or multitool back in. The snap also makes it easier to get the knife back in, sometimes the velcro closes all by itself and you have to open it again. The most annoying is when the velcro latches on to a shirt or the inside of a jacket.

A plus for velcro, its better at retaining the knife when its in the pouch, no popping open or failing to close.

If you use the knife frequently, I recommend leather with a snap. If the use is infrequent, velcro may be better. I have no experience with horizontal carry, but I would want a tight fitting sheath with lots of velcro. Gravity is always there tugging on the knife.

How do people function without carrying a knife?

If you want to go the custom route, check this link out

I have several of his custom flashlight holsters and they are really nice. Come with a lifetime guarantee too. Great guy to work with and will make a holster how you want it.

I also have several Maxpedtion nylon sheaths that work well for leatherman type tools. You just have to find something in the size you need. It's out there.
