I'd be carrying my 10536 Instigator (Benchmade: where's the double ground drop point version?). High chrome steel, coated to boot, no folding mechanism to screw up.

But I've carried a 710 on fishing and sea kayaking trips. A quick swish in whatever body of water you happen to be camped by or floating on will keep sand out of the pivot. A regular flush with fresh water will be required if the body of water is salty.

I think it is an axis design fualt.

There is so much room in and aoriund the lock and springs, that junk gets in there and hangs things up.

I have noticed that as soon as a little sand gets in, the side opposite my thumb drags and causes the axis to bind. Unless the whole locked is clean and well lubed, it seems that the axis locking bar will not travel back evenly and will bind. No such problem on the good old liner locks!

It's a solid lock, but the liner locks are just as good Smiler

I've always had to pull Axis locks back with thumb & index fingers at the same time. Otherwise, if I just use my thumb, it will bind up every time even when clean and well lubed.

That being said, imo the only knife more dependable than an Axis lock is a fixed blade. Big Grin
