As far as I'm concerned BM can do whatever they want to do. I will buy the knives that I want, if I want to, this ain't Russia (yet). I think any increase around 10% or less over the same time last year is probably the rusult of real cost increases faced by the manufacturer and really shouldn't be held against them (unless you want them to go out of business).
As far as "MAP" goes, let's say they were selling (adjusted for scale) 10 knives and making $10 each, and then they cut out the distributors, enforce the MAP, and start selling 7 knives and making $12 each. Unless they just want to make less knives (and money), this problem will correct itself pretty quickly (months). If, on the other hand, they do that and still manage to sell 10 knives and make $12, or sell 7 knives and can make $15, then bully for them.
These things tend to fluctuate so if you feel BM is "playing" you, "play" them. Sell your newer, current production BM's now (or soon), at the new inflated values, and when the tide turns and the market is flooded because BM starts selling 20 knives (to anyone with cash) and making $7 each in an attempt to run the factory at capacity (like the good old days), buy them back at a profit .
