Hey all,

Does anyone know if the BC-1 coating on the 14205 or any coatings from Benchmade are food safe? I noticed some of the coating from the 14205 was gone after cutting some food. I am a bit worried...

The coatings on knives are generally chemically inert.

Wouldn't want to eat a cup of the stuff, but the small amounts on a blade are of negligible import as to health.

Same goes with lubricants - they may taste terrible, but the small amounts on a knife are of negligible import as to health.

Is this like the teflon coating on frying pans? Big Grin My wife throw away all teflon coated frying pans when they started to peel. Now we use SS frying pan with alot of grapeseed oil for cooking. Smiler

Nah, you'll be ok. Time to buy a new 14205 though. Wink

Yeah, yer cool. I've been using mine for years, and other than a screw or two loose, no ill effects.

Smart move! ...and those teflon and silverstone coated pans, when overheated... will kill (almost immediately) any pet bird(s) you might have, if they're nearby. You might tell this to any friends of yours, if they do keep birds. Fwiw.

Cool
