I purchased my first Benchmade a few months ago; a 581BK. Absolutely love the knife, a lot more useful than the Case pocket knives I have.
My concern is with the flimsy pouch this thing came with. I use the pouch to keep from scratching the 581BK as a daily carry. It is already badly worn. Is this thing really practical or simply a decoration for collectors who don't really use the knife?

Yeah, I think if you want something for EDC, get a proper knife sheath (or for a folder, just clip it somewhere). The microfiber pouch is a nice low lint storage solution. =)

Jim, all I've seen the cloth pouches used for is during shipping.

Jim, the cloth bags are for in-box storage. For EDC protection if not in my pocket, I use the cheapo Benchmade velcro pouches, both large and small. You might try them instead.

Sounds like your question was answered pretty handily. I agree with most of the statements other than.. I don't go out of my way to protect my EDC knives. If I'm taking one to show, I'll leave it in the pouch or put it in a knife roll, but other than that, those microfiber bags stay in the boxes.

Welcome to the forum.

I see your point though. First time I took a new BM out of one of them fancy bags I was thinking what the heck--they could sent one without this bag and sold it to me for $5 less. Sure wasn't used to such fanciness. Then I was thinking maybe I could save a few and have a pair of custom Benchmade silk panties sewn for my wife!
