Being the curious idiot i am, I took the grips off of my knife to oil it and got carried away and completely broke down my knife. Now I had it almost all back together, and a tiny bushing flew out when i opened the blade. I have no idea where it came from because I didnt see it at all while i was taking it apart. Ill post pics, its the bushing with the screwdriver pointed at it. Also, I can't get the spring assembly back together. Please help if you can, thank you very much.

Does your 580 have only one washer? If so does the bushing fit around the pivot screw assembly or fit within the pivot hole on the blade? Looks a bit too small for that purpose, though... The 5000 has a similar looking bushing and it is for the side of the blade that the spring engages, since a normal washer wouldn't work. (click to enlarge) In this picture the bushing is below the blade and above the coil spring. I will type up another message on how I would attempt to reassemble the knife. _______________ - Jesse. The 520 needs an M4 blade.

Welcome to the forum, by the way. I do not have a 580 or 585 and have not taken one apart, so this is just my best guess on how to reassemble it. It also looks like I missed the other washer, in the first picture below the scales. So I really do not know what the bushing is for. Can you post a picture of the blade where the coil spring engages? I suggest doing a dry-run without the coil spring to get a feel for how things fit together and to try to figure out where that bushing should go. 1. put pivot barrel into right liner 2. engage coil spring into right liner around pivot barrel, put large washer around coil spring barrel 3. engage blade onto coil spring and pivot barrel, partially close blade (blade would be under tension) 4. put in blade stop pin on right liner 5. ease blade open, keep pressure on blade to keep spring in place 6. put safety button onto right liner 7. fit left liner onto right liner, starting with pivot and blade stop, then fitting around safety button 8. insert pivot screw and handle screws, hand tighten 9. tighten down all screws 10. put axis bar into cutouts through both liners, loop around and onto blade (might be easier to unhook the omega springs from the axis bar) 11. hook omega spring onto each liner (and back onto the bar if you disconnected them) 12. adjust pivot tension 13. attach handle scales 14. keep the bushing as a souvenir?? I think a couple of members have disabled the axis-assist on their knives, so they would have a better idea about the bushing. Good luck. _______________ - Jesse. The 520 needs an M4 blade.

I had one of my 580's apart but it would be hard for me to explain how to put it back together. I remember it took me a couple hours to figure it out. I do remember the key to putting the coil spring back together was you have to take the thumb stud off the blade to get the blade back far enough to engage the coil spring assembly after you have the pivot pin screwed together loosely. That bushing you are pointing to I believe goes around the stop pin. I took it apart again later and it took no time after I once had it figured out. Hope this helps.

Will Lifesharp put it back together correctly and sharpen it for $5? Cause I do need it sharpened. And yeah, I figured that bit out with the thumbstuds today. I took them out and got it to engage, but now my problem is the knife won't stay closed. WTF.
