I took a dip in some water....ok my suspension line snapped while crossing a river with -5'C temps outside and me, my pack, and my buddy holding the pull line all went in.

It was one of those "man vs wild" race to strip and get a fire going moments. Well in my pocket was a 520. It froze up pretty good, but worked itself loose after a few openings and being placed next to the fire.

My tender parts have still not recovered fully from that dunking....and probably never will....

I've been lucky and never taken a spill into freezing water, good thing you had a buddy with ya.

do you use a coated bag inside your backpack when you're out hiking? I usually do incase of a freak rain or wet ground.

Im sure in extreme cold weather it would. Ive had folders freeze on me. If they are cold, and you use them they get warm. Either condensation collects or snow melts, then it gets freezing cold again and it will "freeze" It was also -25, not to mention wind chill factor. 2 cents
