I wonder what BenchMade did with the first 500 Bedlam SBK's? I have made a few calls where they are in stock and dealers say they are not numbered. It seems that all American Dealers are not getting the first productions in the SBK, but they are in the BK model.

Just something I have noticed and find interesting. I also find it interesting that the configurations of this knife was only supposed to be in SBK, now there is a BK version as well.

Mr.Winks mentioned in one of the threads that first 100 pieces were shipped to SW Asia for some prince' security detail. And not all models have 250/500/1000 pieces in First Production runs. Some go as low as 100 (the latest was 51). This could be the case here as well.

I remember him posting that now about the security detail. The Bk model I am getting is first production out of 500. I would think the SBK version would have been as well. So where did the other 400 go?

I am off on Monday.....think I will give BM a call. Wink

Back in the day it was done differently. Out of 1000 First Production Run knives 250 were uncoated PE, 250 coated PE, 250 uncoated CE, and 250 coated CE. I think that pattern changed since then.

I will call and ask. I know for sure that the PE Bk model is 500. I would think the SBK model would be 500 as well since there is only two configurations.

I will let you know what I find out.

from my experience the newer models all shared the same final production number as no matter what the configuration, they were part of the initial "pre/first" production.
i would be surprised to hear there were seprate pre production runs for each configuration but i have heard this knife was designed for a prince of some country so who knows on this one.

I spoke to BM customer service and learned that they are not advertising the BK (plain edge) version and that is why it is not listed as a configuration. I was told that it used to be for a BK version a dealer had to order in quantities of 20 or more.
As far as production runs go, I was told that it would be 500 of each version. So the SBK version would be 500 and the BK version 500. I still haven't figured out where all of the first 500 SBK went. If 100 went to this Prince security detail, then where did the other 400 go?

I guess it really doesn't matter, I am just curious.

Tell me about it!

My plain edge 8600 was just delivered not more than 30 minutes ago.

WOW!! Is all I can say. It is a very nice knife and beautiful in the PE version. I had to leave it in the other room so I would quit drooling all over it. Big Grin

I will post pictures in the photo area later after I get all of my work done.
