It's been awhile since I've been on and I'm having confusion about this. So it's illegal for me, a normal citizen to buy an auto from a dealership unless it's two inches and under right? Okay so how about if I buy one with a blade larger than two inches from someone out of state/out of country? Can I own it? Will it be okay shipped to me? I think I remember something about not using USPS?

A few years ago I was made aware of some possibly over zealous federal employees that were on a knife forum. I was advised that these people were expressing their concern about illegal ownership of automatic knives by “ civilians”. I wasn’t 100% sure of my legal rights as to how to buy and own auto knives so I consulted an attorney. After being briefed on local and federal laws I was relieved to know that I was doing everything right. Siu- if you really want to know your rights, I would suggest you talk to a lawyer. You’re going to get uninformed opinions over the Internet about the law. Best of luck, nice to have you back

On the face of CA law, it is illegal for a dealer to sell or offer to sell a "switchblade" except to authorized LEOs. See CA PC 653K below. So I'm not sure how a dealer could think he can sell one to anyone but an authorized government employee, unless he knows something that is not clear in the law. It is not illegal to BUY one however (go figure), and it can be transported home in the trunk of your car as long as it is seperate from the passenger area. Federal law prohibits the "shipment" of switchblade knives across state lines, again with the exception of to authorized government dealers and contractors. So, if you buy an auto in Oregon and bring it back to CA. in the trunk of your car, you are not violating laws, as far as I know. I am NOT a lawyer. You would technically be breaking the CA law by carrying it from your car trunk to your home. 653k. Every person who possesses in the passenger's or driver's area of any motor vehicle in any public place or place open to the public, carries upon his or her person, and every person who sells, offers for sale, exposes for sale, loans, transfers, or gives to any other person a switchblade knife having a blade two or more inches in length is guilty of a misdemeanor. This message has been edited. Me I'd take the work, leave the auto at home and bring the chainsaw...! These knife laws are so strange, because from one city to another they're different, and that's the problem...how do you adjust to what you don't know you're going to find when you get there? There should be some kind of standard. Or none at all and let us carry anything we want. 350, 520, 525BK-1101, 530, 580-1102, 580 Proto, 583-1, 585-1, 710-1, 710-2, 710D2, 710HS, 722, 732, 740, 740 Proto, 741, 745, 746, 746-1201, 750, 790, 800, 800HS, 805-1101, 810, 812, 830, 831, 835HS, 840, 845, 890, 905, 907D2, 910, 910SCG, 912D2, 913D2, 12400 Proto, 12410, 14205, 14210, 40022-100.
