Handle material. 5500 handles are aluminum, 5270 handles are Noryl GTX (just like Grips). Blade steel. 5500 blade is 154CM, 5270 blade is 440C. Depends on your preferences. Another thing to consider is that the blade on 5270 is hollow ground, some consider it weaker then saber grind of 5500, specially the tip.
