I've never handled the auto version, but really like the 520--after the 615 and 806 of course. Wink

Anyway, can somebody fill me in on the benefits of the 5000? I can flip my 520 open pretty quick, and it closes one-handed too. What do you gain by having the auto version?

Also, does the safety get in the way?

Thanks in advance.

It's a matter of preference, really. I like manual axis better, it can be opened as fast as an auto, but you have a option of lightning fast closing as well. Not so with auto.

Auto....Hands Down. For manuals I prefer thumb hole style, they seem smoother to open for me. I am not a big fan of the thumb studs on the blade. I only own one BM with a thumb stud and it is a great knife, but I don't like it as much as my autos.

Manual Axis for me. I like to be able to close the knife quickly and easily too.

I just love the idea of having a auto, and playing around with it,but manual axis are quicker when closing, and maybe safer, haha

Both Variations the AXIS and Auto's Lock up extremly well and the ones I have handled have ZERO blade play but for me I just prefer the manual AXIS...
