if i never use my infidel for cutting but just for self defense (in other words the blade never really never touches anything) will D2 rust/stain just drom the air? and no i won't be getting it wet....i just have never bought a non-stainless steel.....but i thought it would be ok since benchmade's website says it has "good corrosion resistance" thanks! HI, if you don't live in a very humid area and you keep the blade dry, it'll be not very likely for the blade to rust. However, my BM 32 (Morpho balisong) shows some rust stains after heavy usage. D2 contains about 12% chromium, so it's not really a rustproof steel. It's "just very corrosion resistant". If you keep the blade oiled there is really nothing to worry about.

Hi Jedi74, well, that's a tough question to answer. Let me elaborate on this a bit by comparing the BM32 with the BM3300: I use my BM32 a lot. I always lubed and cleaned the blade with Tuf-Cloth or Benchmade Blue Lube. I live in Austria. From the following picture I can tell that the humidity in our country is "low": Well, nevertheless: I cleaned the knife after each use, but there are small rust spots on the blade near the BM logo and the "D2" signature. At first I thought that this was only "dirt", but after cleaning the knife excessively, I found out that this were rust stains. I wouldn't consider D2 as rust-free/corrosion-free/rust-proof/corrosion-proof steel. However, D2 is a hell of a good knife steel. I like it a lot. Compared to CPM-D2: This one isn't stainless/rust-proof either. The Para-Military (for example) in CPM-D2 comes in an extra plastic bag and oiled very well. There is also a notice in the package, telling you something like this: "CPM-D2 isn't rust-/corrosion-resistant. You'll have to clean/oil/protect your knife very well after each use. Hey Julian thanks for the info but my question is based on the premise that I really don't use my infidel for anything but self defense so the blade really doesn't touch anything but the air. So is the air enough to rust an infidel as long as I keep it dry in your opinion? I mean if benchmade says their D2 offers good corrosion resistence I assumed than mere air would not rust my blade..... As long as I keep it dry..... Do you agree? By the way nice YouTube videos "I see you have constructed a new lightsaber."

Well, I don't know much about humidity in your area or the area(s) where you suppose to use the knife, but in the long run the knife will most likely rust a bit (small rust stains, ..). But this really depends on how you treat your knife. If you oil/lube/clean it and keep it dry, the blade won't rust so fast. But don't be afraid! Getting D2 to rust will take some time Regards, Julian Benchmades: #1100-1 w/2nd gen clip, 3300, 3300BK, 760LFTi, 32, 46, 51, 51, 51-91, 755 MPR Spyderco: Szabofly, Smallfly Trainer Bradley: Kimura II SS Limited

If you're not using it, then wiping it down with a tough cloth every few months should protect it just fine. http://www.sentrysolutions.com/welcome.shtml ...............................................................................................................
