I would never draw my knife unless I knew without a doubt that my life was in danger. The second you produce a knife, the situation changes and you better be ready to use it.

The question has been brought up before and it
never stops bieng contraversial as well as interesting.
My take on it is this:
If it's life or death then all rules of engagement go out the door.
If it's life threating then I go out the door.
I hope it makes sense.
If i had to choose a knife then it's my bad boy

Never threaten someone with a knife.

If someone puts you in a deadly force encounter and you're going to have to use a knife, the first they should know you have a knife is when they feel it.

That's one way it changes. You would have to prove to the courts that the use of a knife was justified. In my opinion the situation itself can also change. If an attacker only wanted the money in your pocket, pulling out a knife changes the situation from a robbery to a fight; and you never know what type of weapon/training your attacker has.

I actually got in a fight a few months back (I know almost 40) and fighting but It wasnt my plan. I was attacked buy my brother in law who has a long history of gobbling pills (every type) in the world and alcohol, this guys drinks 20 + beers after work.. I did have my knife with me and the fight had 3 different rounds and I really wanted to draw my knife, at the time I had a 710 on me.. But my inner common sense prevented me from pulling it out, I was afraid that if I defended my self with a knife especially a 710 being so long that he could end up bleeding to death, and tho he probably deserved a good poke I decided not to.. 10 minutes later the cops were showed up and the first thing they were looking for were weapons.. Short version...

This all took place in my mother in laws house during a blackout we had a while back.. I went to her house to feed her dog evert night at 10 pm (the family was staying at my house cause I never lost power). When I arrived at her house to feed the dog he was hiding in one of the bedrooms in the dark, when I came up the basement stairs he popped me from behind. I hit the deck and slid across the kitchen and we made our way to another room, my vision was really blurred (now keep in mind this is a sick, drugged and drunk Marine) who Im fighting with, again blurred from his punch to the back of the neck/head I was concerned that I could not fist fight or defend myself at the moment cause its dark and I'm spinning from the cheap shot. here he is coming at me full stride again I have no sense of left or right from the blow, I'm thinking "I'm gonna die", well my adrenalin kicked in and with out hesitation or thought I decided to grab a full size dog cage and (imagine swinging it like a bat), well thats what I did and it caught him square in the face/chest and sent him across the room on the floor and down for the moment, I approached him to see blood coming out of several place on his face.. Moments later probably seconds he is getting up, My knife I thought? This is what its for, use it, your gonna need it!! I actually reached for it and started to pull it out and pushed it back in my pocket something told me no, so I opted not to.. Another round went by and 3 police cars showed up and I knew one of the cops, when all was said and done I pulled him aside and asked him what if I had used my knife I asked? He explained I would go straight to jail and it would be near impossible to explain why I used a knife on my intoxicated brother in law.. I would have been guilty and up the creek with out a paddle come to find out. Boy I wanted to stick him I really did.. I hate this guy and hope he gets hit by a bus someday but he is on self destruct mode and will be the demise of himself soon enough.. I mean here is a guys who probably would have killed me had the events gone another way and I still would be the screwed one If I had defended myself with my pocket knife strange laws no??

Jedi Run away first. Yes sounds kind of pansy but can you actually handle the what is going to happen if you stay around?

1} You draw the knife he pulls a gun and shoots your ass where you stand.
2} You don't draw your knife and he shoots your ass where you stand.
3} You draw your knife, stab and possibly kill an unarmed man that just has a bad temper. You have no witnesses, so you spend the next 10-25 yrs. in prison for murder or the next 5-10yrs. in prison for aggrivated assualt with a deadly weapon.

Run first!
