Yeah I hear ya on the fun to flip. I see how great people get and know it is a matter of practice. but I figure if I just get 3 or four moves put to gether I'll feel justified in my purchase of a Bali.

I had a minor/could have been major wake-up call the other day. The wake-up call being never to carry an OTF as an EDC or self defense implement.

I love my Infidel...easily one of my favorite blades...have one in Satin and one in BK. I never carry them since their so pretty...but I love OTFs...and the "fear factor" potential OTFs have. The action is enough to make most average dogs rethink their activity. Anyway...liking the design but not wanting to damage one of my beautiful BMs...I bought tactical OTF...the Harkins Triton from MOD/Blackhawk. It was immediately apparent from the moment I opened the box I wasn't dealing with BM quality...but hey...gotta give it a try. My neighborhood isn't the safest and everything I walk the dogs I have my Surefire M3 Combat Light w/Strike Bezel in one pocket and a kniofe in the other. So...on this particular night I slip the Triton in pocket. As luck would have it...we round the corner on one of my usual paths...I spot a pit bull in a yard with a fence wayyyyy to small for him. Sure enough he's over the fence in a split second and hauling tail towards us. I grab my dog in one arm and slipped my hand into my pocket and pull out the Triton...only to feel the deploy button sliding back and forth...loose out of the action. Before I had a chance to think or say...OOOOO SSSHHHH...the screams of my fiancee sent the dog running for cover...into someone else's yard who had a dog. By this time the brain dead owner had come out to get his dog...like an idiot shaking his head like the dog did something wrong. I hope they put the owner down if the dog does anything!

So...the heck with using an OTF for defense! Its my Eickhorn S.E.K. or Nim Cub from now on. Thge lesson...always....ALWAYS...function before fashion.

Damn. Good thing you're alright. I always carry my 3300, but I usually have the 943 with me as well. I keep that infidel clean and lubed always. Never had a problem since.

A lot of activity on this thread lately.

A BM 42 ok the knife will open with out fail... yes.
BUT will the user fail to open it in time. when A PIT BULL is barring down on you, your carring your dog ( which brings to mind what kidda dog was he walking? a toy poodle or something), fishing for a flashlight and the fiancee is screaming in the back round.
Whom actualy saved the day with out a knife. ought to just bottle her scream and sell it as dog repelant.

or perhaps think of getting one of those dog whistles. Although it would hurt your own dogs ears :-(
I know times like that make me wish I could just say "BEAM ME UP SCOTTY!"

HEHEHHEHEH...my dog is a miniature dachsund...but she has received special ops training with the D-Boys. She attacks any and everything...she's vicious...she skinned a rabit inside of 10 seconds once...wasn't pretty...rabits scream like babies...it was freaky. I've since made her wear a remote shock collar that does the trick...keeps the attacks to minimum...basically works for everyone except members of my fiancee's family. Its the oddest thing...the button just doesn't seem to work around them.

I've had screams save me from dogs more than once. i remember being saved from my own screams once when I was little when two dobermans escaped from their yard. They hauled dog butt when they heard me!

My Infidel probably would have worked fine. I imagine thats the type of blade you would need with a big dog since you will probably need to stab instead of slice. I just hope it doesn't happen again...I love dogs man!
