Going on the Benchmade site I see that the 585BK plain edge is not listed but I DO see it online at other places.

Some sites have pointed out that it is limited production and not available anymore.

Considering that I haven't seen this mentioned before here I was wondering how limited this knife style is if it's not numbered or if it really is a genuine BM (in that configuration). I only see the combo edge in black.

Most coated blade models are only listed in CE, but any dealer can place a 20 piece minimum order for that model in PE. It won't be a limited run though.

Thanks for the info, you guys.

How durable is the black finish? It's BK1 I believe.

That's what happened with my Griptilian, now I know better and pick up a box cutter to cut cardboard.

I'll still open packages with it, but I cut the tape and not the box itself.

Yep, I use a cheapo box cutter for the rough stuff. My 710BK's coating scuffed easily on a carpet project here at the house and I wound up taking the coating completely off. There are a few BK models on my listing, but definitely prefer a satin finish.

As much discussed, I prefer the BT coating and even better the BC-1, which last longer.

So if cardboard can mess up the coating then pretty much anything can. *sigh* Frowner

Cardboard is pretty rough.

That being said, I really think this is one area where BM could improve their product, tougher blade coating.
