Yes I have two.
And ..Yes... I realize it was an extreme test. my test was only the pictures the othere was the Youtube test which is not mine.

If you had your knife closed in your hand and where walking stealthfuly down a river bank...
Suddenly you have to hit the dirt or mud rather.
You might possibly have a knife get as much dirt in it as I did. in which case it becomes a handicap.
You never know what kind of trouble you may have to dig yourself out of.. do wee..

Like some old feller used to say

A knife is the most expensive yet least effective Shovel... Hammer...prybar...

As for being able to do it to a LE...
the other 249 just went up in value
so your welcome to all you other 615-2 owners.
If I had owned a 585 I'd had used it to test the THEORY of RELATIVITY of dirt in an AXIS AO SYSTEM.
So I would say that if I where to need a knife that I was going to use in Life and Death Situation. I would say FIXED BLADE
or Any thing with a Standard AXIS lock.

Did you at least buy two?

I think it's safe to assume that having a knife remain reliable even after a dirt bath would be nice, now I'm thinking a sheath would be better to keep a knife ready.

more cheers for fixed blades in rough conditions!

Now for what I have to say, folding knives are tool, high end folding knives are very nice and aren't under normal conditions expected to endure wet, gritty and dirty conditions.

It comes down to the right tool for the job, expect problems trying to filet a fish with a shovel, expect problems trying to shovel with a knife.

sry mark, the nitrous assist is MUCH better than the axis assist coil springs wear out, lets see nitrous "break" or wear out. also i know everyone loves axis, but look at it as overkill, which it is, a quality liner lock is 100 times more than anyone will ever need, or do some people cut upside down somehow?

I don't consider the axis lock to be "overkill" at all... If anything, I think a liner lock is "underkill," if you will Wink.

The axis lock offers a supreme locking mechanism in an effective and easy to use design, nothing wrong with that.. Its BM's bread-n-butter.

BM does have a few quality liner locks, but I'll still take an axis lock just about every time.

I know I went over the top for a dirt in the axis system test..
Sorry for causing any pain and suffering for having to watch the mayhem Frowner

Quote: Dr Forthington Pringles
Good luck in the sand box!!!!
I'm guessing directed at Jarrod

Anyway at the begining of page 2.
I felt I was a bit of a jerk in regaurds to jarrods inquiry about dirt in an axis AO system.
Then after DR. Forthingtons quote there
I felt that before Jarrod; ( or any other fella going to the sand box) decided to buy a 585,
took it over seas and got some dirt in it and it froze up. It would be well worth the sacrifice.
Which I don't feel was slaughtering a lamb or anything... Seeing as how I can send it in an have it cleaned and lubed.
And since I was already carrying it anyway.
And haveing had sharpened it a few times my self..
Hardly BNIB before it took a dirt bath.

So the real question is what did Jarrod finaly decide to buy???

I would add that if you had time and the where with all to take it apart yourself it could be cleaned and lubed to like new by yourself.
And Skimo was right in saying if left in a sheath and not used for a shovel it would probably be just fine.
