welcome aboard.
the auto-axis' axis bar locks the blade. you pull the bar back to open the blade ( similar to doing a wrist flick with a non-auto ). the mechanism is fully automatic opening and manually closed. there is a hook on the blade that captures the axis bar and keeps the blade closed. on non-autos this hook is merely a small ridge as it does not have to fight the strength of the spring. here's a short video of me opening my 5500. sorry for the quality of the video. _______________ - Jesse. The 520 needs an M4 blade. |

Auto Axis
Above is a link to another thread on this forum containing photos that another member took while disassembling his 6150 Auto Axis. His review and photos give a great insight into how the internal mechanism works and how simple the design really is. I own a BM5000 and it was one of the best investments I've ever made in a knife. It is build extremely solid and has definitely stood up to some abuse while I was active duty in the Army. ------------------------------------------------------------ -Mike 5000, Vex, 943 Good? Full auto. And after a while the auto axis mechanisms get very smooth. You will love to handle one of these Regards, Julian Benchmades: #1100-1 w/2nd gen clip, 3300, 3300BK, 760LFTi, 32, 46, 51, 51, 51-91, 755 MPR Spyderco: Szabofly, Smallfly Trainer Bradley: Kimura II SS Limited |

I only have two autos, the 3550 and 5500. The 3550's fast to open but nowhere as fast as the 5500.
Pull back on the Axis bar as you normally would and the blade really SNAPS out. The safety lock out button on the 5500 looks like a big improvement too. While my 520's a chore in the pocket the 5500's easy to carry. 350, 520, 525, 525BK-1101, 530, 530-901, 580-1102, 580 Proto, 583-1, 585-1, 635, 710-1, 710HS, 710D2, 722, 732, 740, 740 Proto, 741, 745, 746, 750, 760, 790, 800, 805-1101, 806BK-901, 812, 830, 831, 835HS, 840, 845, 905, 907D2, 910, 910SCG, 912D2, 913D2, 12400 Proto, 12410, 14205, 14210.
