Ok,

Just picked up a 890. It's my first high end folder. I really like it but have been reading reviews regarding the liner lock. Mine seems to engage solidly. I can, however, see how it could release somehow with hard use.
It's an EDC knife for me and not a hard use one at that.
Should I shy away from liner locks in the future? I would like to keep my fingers!

Welcome Pappy,

Nothing wrong with liner locks if done right, and the 890 is a pretty good knife. I would not be afraid of getting more 'liners', Benchmade stands behind their products with an excellent warranty policy, so if there is ever a problem you will be covered.

And if you like the Torrent, you might consider one of the Axis-based models like the 940/943, or the 950 Rift, which is very popular with us.

Stick around, there's lots to learn and this is a pretty good bunch of people.

Thanks guys. Free with the knife purchase was the "blue box" tool kit. Messing with the fasteners seemed to allow the liner lock to more fully engage the tang. (I think that's the right word)

Anyway, so far so good. Really a beautiful knife!

Pappy, on the 890 there's that little hex adjustment nut adjusts with the T-6 Torx driver, which allows the play on the blade to be tuned to your liking. The key is to have the tang fully meet the lock and I like this setup because the knife can be adjusted by you as it wears in.
