I have a couple godsons and unless your looking for a sword you may want to consider looking at the godson the god father is 10 inches long about 2 longer than a stryker. Protech makes some of the planets finest autos, fit and finish is porsche like, they fire incredibly fast and smooth, lock up like tanks and center very nicely. you wont be disappointed.. the bummy side is (not for me ) but if your a steel junky almost everything they do is in 154CM and damascus, very little in between 32BK, 2550, 3550, 9051, 425SBK, 440, 525BK, 527, 550SBKOD, 553BKHG, 556SBK, 556YEL, 555SHG-BLU, 558BT-600, 585, 615-2, 635, 707S, 710D2, 710-801, 730BT, 745, 745SBK, 812, 813, 830SBT, 831S, 890, 890BK, 906SBKD2, 913D2, 923-01, 930S, 940BK, 950-1, 950SBK, 960-SLV, 960-RED, 10410, 10750SBP, 10751BP, 14205, 14210, 14440SB, 16707BT, 12800BK-801

I personally went to the Protech shop in Sante Fe Springs, CA to buy two knives from Dave the owner. Everything about his shop was designed to put as much perfection into his knives as is possible. I bought a Godson and a Runt J4. Dave engraved the Runt for my brother as it was my gift to him for being the best man in my wedding. One particular thing that stood out to me when Dave gave me the tour of the shop was that he took particular concern in the safety and health of all of his employees. The fit and finish of all of the Protechs I've used, owned, or just played with has been phenomenal. KJ hit the nail on its head when he said to check out the Godson also if you're interested in the Godfather. As far as comparing the Godfather to the Stryker? These are two very different knives. The Stryker is built like a tank... just as is every BM auto that I own is. Whereas the Protech knives (even though they are well designed and have a great manufacturing/assembly/QA process) are not built to take the kind of abuse that a BM can be subjected to. If you are looking for a quality auto that is a nice looking Gentlemen's carry (they are generally just very "pretty" knives even though they can take their fair share of abuse). I would definitely suggest the Protech (not to take anything away from the many fantastic knives that BM has on the market). But if you're looking for a knife that will take near endless abuse and still be in top working order years down the road. I would strongly advise that you look into an Auto Stryker or even a BM5000 if you're a fan of the Axis lock like myself. 154CM is the steel of choice among most auto makers. The Stryker, 5000, and Protechs are all 154CM due to its properties. It takes a very good edge, it isn't a nightmare to sharpen, is resistant to chipping, and it be finished in any number of ways (scotchbrite, bead blast, hand rubbed/mirror finished). I would be willing to argue that 154CM is one of the best user steels on the market today. The only steels that I like even remotely close to it are CPM154 (same steel just using powder metallurgy) or maybe VG-10. Whatever you choose, ask questions if you have them, try to handle the knives before you make your purchase, and know that whichever knife you buy between what you're interested.. you're buying a very good knife! mcinnismd@yahoo (if you have any specific questions) ------------------------------------------------------------ -Mike 5000, Vex, 943 Good? The BM spring will probably out live the protech but really does it matter? Either company will stand behind the products they Mfg and repair it if anything goes wrong. The godson/father is not made to be hammered to death it is more of a gentleman's carry. 32BK, 2550, 3550, 9051, 425SBK, 440, 525BK, 527, 550SBKOD, 553BKHG, 556SBK, 556YEL, 555SHG-BLU, 558BT-600, 585, 615-2, 635, 707S, 710D2, 710-801, 730BT, 745, 745SBK, 812, 813, 830SBT, 831S, 890, 890BK, 906SBKD2, 913D2, 923-01, 930S, 940BK, 950-1, 950SBK, 960-SLV, 960-RED, 10410, 10750SBP, 10751BP, 14205, 14210, 14440SB, 16707BT, 12800BK-801
