congrats for your 9052,
i don't have one of those but i have 4 mini reflex...
I lube them every 3 days but it deepens of the use you give to the knife

i lube them with 3 in 1 oil, oster blade oil or wd40. no problem whatsoever...i don't think tuf glide will give you problems
in any case you should first clean the knife with water and soap, to take off dirt and dust.

My AFO's haven't seen much (if any) use, so no lube. 2 of them are from early-mid 90's, I cleaned an lubed them once, when I first got 'em and they are still firing hard, no lube needed.

I wonder if Benchmade lubes these when they are new or if they come with no lube like the 42.

Anyone know?

Thanks!

Some things never change, First Jedi wants to know how to lube an Infidel, now he wants to know how to lube his 9052. Roll Eyes

OTS autos are much more forgiving than the Infidel, but you'll probably ignore my post....again.

The AFOII is a button lock(trigger) with a coil spring.

There are several ways to lube it, tuf glide, wd-40, motor oil, blue lube, CRK grease, 3in1 oil, graphite, mineral oil etc. etc.

For graphite, dis-assembly is fairly easy if you've ever taken apart a similar knife (cheap and easy practice option is a Smith&Wesson button lock auto)

If you want super smooth, while the knife is disassembled you can grab some 1500 or 2000 grit wet dry sandpaper and polish the contact surfaces, change out the washers if you want, nylon washers are very forgiving when you have a polished tang and liners, the PB washers "stick" very easily when mirror polished, the sweet spot is minuscule but the smoothness obtainable is second to nothing I've ever handled, including Sebenza.

I really can't recall if BM lubes or not with any knife that comes with PB washers as they self lubricate and are a reason why wearing in a knife makes it smoother.

Short answer, use what you like, all lubes leave a residue, that's how they work.

On lube stuff in general, I've tried different oils like WD-40, mineral oil (the best so far), and Tuf-Glide which is my current general purpose stuff for things in the house and for the knives that need it. But I find nearly all will act as 'attractants' and pickup and hold dust, pocket lint, and food particles.

While I know BM uses Blue Lube or something similar (take a scale off any Barrage model and you will see lots of it in there), I really don't use much of anything any more...if the knife is kept clean (pipe cleaners are a great tool and cheaper than any can of lube...) there won't be much of a problem.

Yep, pipe cleaners don't leave lint like Q-tips do and have that flexible wire to get into those little spaces, picked up that tip a long time ago and it works for lots of non-knife stuff where things get gummed up.

well i own the 3300 infidel and the 9100 auto stryker so this is only the 3rd benchmade auto i have owned.

that being said, this knife seeme like it can't/won't break. i mean its like the others have said, built like a tank. i thought the 9100 was built strong but the AFO II seems a lot tougher.

also, it fires really hard. to the point that there is some recoil! it almost jumped out of my hand!

finally, i have the 9052 tanto plain edge and its laser sharp man. i mean i would NOT want to be on the receiving end of the 9052.

guess that's it.....if i left anything out, i know some members can fill it in!
