What is the best lube for an auto to keep it going strong?

Pardon my ignorance, but - Is there a specific lube that the people on here prefer for an auto-knife given the "additional" parts/springs and to prevent dirt and lint build up in the internals...or is Rem-Oil (or a comparable oil) good enough to keep it going? Tuf glide - it's very thin and won't gum up the works Don't use anything thick like benchmade's blue lube "I see you have constructed a new lightsaber."

Where do you get Tuf Glide - Gunstore, etc, or online? I like RemOil. So far it worked great for all my folders, autos or manuals. ____________________________ Knock, knock. "Who's there?" "Me!" "Me? No way it's me. I'm right here!" My Benchmades (updated) Benchmades That Used To Be Mine...

That is what I have been using, but I also thought about buying some oil my mother used to have when I was a kid, which she used for her sewing machine (I would have to ask her the brand). I figured if it would not gum up a sewing machine's internals, then it should be fine for a knife. Sewing machine oil is very much like REM-OIL. The new Benchmade Blu-Lube is pretty thin, too. Thin oil is a fair choice for autos. Don't use that TUF-GLIDE crap to lube interior parts - it leaves a film that will build up. TUF-GLIDE, TUF-CLOTHE, etc. all leave "protective" films of a wax.

Good old mineral oil is hard to beat. It's lightweight, cheap, and best of all, it's food safe.

orthogonal, I was thinking about swabbing just the recessed area where the button slides up and down on my Infidel with Tuf-Glide. No interior parts; I just want to prevent wearing the coating off that slide area as long as I can. Would you recommend against that? -----=====-----=====-----=====----- KnifeRights Member

If you could just limit it to that, I'd be hard pressed to say no. But any automobile wax would probably work better to protect the finish. To me, the various TUF products are best as rust inhibiting blade protection.
